Paper Makes Dress

This combines two pages of the blog, ‘paper scissors’ and ‘shoot’. This past Friday I was a part of an amazing shoot with the fabulous Tom Newton at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion. The shoot photos have not been released yet but I had asked Tom a favor. I needed to photograph a dress that I made for a class project. The dress is made completely out of magazines and worked out pretty well!

I am very happy with the results and I am already working on more recycled clothing. I am considering selling the dress (perhaps a prom dress?) or possibly sending it to a magazine or bringing it to Anthropologie. Any thoughts?

As I continue to work on other items please comment and let me know if there is something you have never seen made or if you have a material you challenge me to use!

Of course I will post the actual photos from the shoot when they are released!

“Smell My Knife!” (Craft Results!)

Before anyone gets too concerned we were not cutting noses off as part of our crafting experiment. We were using knives to shave cheap candles we got from various places, one candle smelled particularly fantastic, hence, “smell my knife!”.

Anyways…. this is a super awesome post full of everything I have been working on thus far. Here we go!

Teacup Candles

We got these teacups mostly from an estate sale in local Rochester, NY and we got some of the wax from michael’s (about 8$ per pack) and some from shaving cheaper candles. WARNING: if using cheap candles they may sink once they cool.

They are Lemon Lavender Vanilla Scented with Lavender buds.

Laptop Case

I JUST finished this. It was a bit last minute but it turned out well considering it is from leftover fabric!

Recycled Bottle Planter

This one was instead of the bird feeder in the previous post. It went along more with my theme for this gift (the rest of which will follow). The plant is basil, I am hoping it comes back to life a bit! haha

Infused Sea Salt

This will go in the same basket as the planter and the next project. They are placed in baby food jars that i boiled and painted the tops. The project was not too hard but took some research. There is: lemon pepper, garlic lemon, basil with thyme and garlic, rosemary garlic, garlic and onion, sage and rosemary, lemon lavender. I used a mix of spices I bought and herbs that I dried myself in the oven (such as the basil from the planted basil above and rosemary). Tutorial

Infused Olive Oil

This is also in the basket. It is in a very old glass bottle I spent hours cleaning out but is from the land of the recipients of the basket which makes it worth it. The olive oil is infused with rosemary, garlic, and a tiny bit of lemon. This also took some research because if done the wrong way, the oil will not keep and go rancid.

Etched Glasses

These are for a couple I am very good friends. They are both climbers so I made a special stencil (climbers you should know what that is!). For those of you who do not climb, the design is inspired by a double figure-8 knot that is used to tie the harness into the rope. The glasses were on clearance at Pier 1 so it turned out to be a pretty easy project. The stencil I made out of a few layers of duct tape that I exacto-ed into.

So that is about it! There are still the few that I cannot post yet but I promise I will when I can! Tomorrow I will be headed to a test shoot and getting my hair done pretty crazy so check back on my ‘Shoot’ page tomorrow!

Let me know what you think and follow my blog!
