Paper Makes Dress

This combines two pages of the blog, ‘paper scissors’ and ‘shoot’. This past Friday I was a part of an amazing shoot with the fabulous Tom Newton at Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion. The shoot photos have not been released yet but I had asked Tom a favor. I needed to photograph a dress that I made for a class project. The dress is made completely out of magazines and worked out pretty well!

I am very happy with the results and I am already working on more recycled clothing. I am considering selling the dress (perhaps a prom dress?) or possibly sending it to a magazine or bringing it to Anthropologie. Any thoughts?

As I continue to work on other items please comment and let me know if there is something you have never seen made or if you have a material you challenge me to use!

Of course I will post the actual photos from the shoot when they are released!

Hit the Roof

The Red Barn at RIT

I have fallen in love with climbing. I cannot say it was love at first ascent but there is something about it that hooked me.

Here at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) we have a climbing gym, The Red Barn. Yes, it is literally a barn. No heat, no water, just good climbing, good music and great people.

I started climbing about 10 months ago and am climbing routes I never thought I would even consider touching. My Thanksgiving break was spent at the Red River Gorge in Kentucky, where I climbed outside for the first time with a few good friends from The Barn.

My first climb (a 5.9)!

My mother is going to be less than pleased I was all the way up there instead of helping her cut green beans for Thanksgiving.

So here we are, 2 weeks after my trip to Kentucky and tonight will be the first time I climb on the ceiling. I have managed to keep my climbing relatively vertical up to this point so we will see what happens!

Wish me luck!
